Show and Tale Podcast Episode
I was recently invited to sit down and share about a bowl that I found and the significance it has had in my life. I spoke with Martie McNabb on her podcast, Show & Tale.
Setting Boundaries
My husband and I built a house next door to our daughter and her family two years ago. I was so worried about imposing on her that we located our house so that their barn and our garage blocked our views of each other’s yards. These seemed like good boundaries. They protected everyone’s privacy but didn’t impinge on our love and support for one another.
A Gift for You
Everyday I have the power to choose who I'll be. When I wrote my book, After Rain, I chose to balance this serious effort with playfulness and ease. I knew these intentions were essential to creating the magic became After Rain.
The Best Day of My Life
Is it possible to make today the best day of my life? Actually I'm the only one who can! My fate is not determine by the events of the day but by my perceptions of them. It's true - I have the power to create my day.
Sing a Song of Gratitude
Gratitude is the song I want to sing all day long. When I open my heart wide to the present moment I hear the song and join in. I send it right back out, singing to you in a spirit of generosity.
The Easy Way Out
When I arrived for a visit with my three-year old grandson, Birch, he was stamping his feet, hiding in the corner and whining that today is “the worst day of my life.” I get it. Bad moments can quickly become bad days. And it all happens when our thoughts and emotions trap us into one point of view and then there we are, victims of a “ruined” day.
Embracing Our Creative Selves
It was two years ago this month that I started in earnest to write my first book, After Rain. It’s funny that I referred to it as “my first book” because I have no plans for a second. But then I didn’t see the first one coming, nor did I know I would feel, even today, awed by the wisdom it holds. So, who knows? Maybe there is another book waiting in the wings. Life is certainly full of surprises. And anything is possible!
Imagine the Possibilities
Be still and notice the thought in your head. Yes, that one. It usually begins with "I can't," "he shouldn't," "the world is a mess." Now hold onto it before the next thought rushes in. Be curious.
A Walk in the Woods
It’s chilly outside, but no problem. I’m in need of a walk in the woods so I bundle up and head out to the edge of our property where I join a trail that takes me on my journey. Ah, but now I have to decide: will I take a brisk cardio walk to my destination or a slow meandering one into the sights and sounds along the way?
Courage and Vulnerability
As a photographer living in Santa Fe, I was intrigued by the cowboy persona. I would wrangle my way behind the scenes at the annual rodeo to capture their energy and swagger. Overtime I discovered so much more.
No Rush
I have mixed feelings about the end of Summer. I’m tired of the heat and endless supply of zucchinis. I grieve the loss of sunlight, and yet I’m in a hurry to feel the cool crisp air on my face and to fall asleep buried under a warm and weighty pile of blankets. But living in COVID times has slowed me down, and I find I’m content this year to linger in this season of late summer.

Bountiful Summer
We need only look to Nature to understand that “we’re all in this together.” And it is only together that we will thrive. When I was growing up I would help my grandfather pick his carefully tended raspberries early in the morning. I would feel them in my mouth, still wet and juicy from the morning dew.
Imagine
Are you ready for a science lesson? I want to share what I know about imaginal cells and what they have to do with our lives on Planet Earth during these changing times. After a caterpillar spins a chrysalis around itself, it begins to feed on its own body, eating itself until it’s destroyed, leaving behind nothing but a gooey mush of dormant cells, all with identical DNA.
A Lesson in Thriving
I took a walk with a friend yesterday on a path along the Mill River. She pointed out a thriving giant Dawn Redwood, an unusual tree in our area. We stopped to rest our backs against her massive trunk. Talking to trees may sound strange to some, but I heard her tell me “Don’t give in.”
Creating a New World
A few nights ago, I dreamt I was with a group of friends. We had a collection of things — buttons, fabric, thread, sticks, feathers — and our plan was to use them to make some thing new, never before seen.
